So Blizzard is on the case to why people crashing when in Dalaran or flying around on mounts in Northrend. The only thing they have found is by turning down video card settings it can 'reduce' your likely hood of crashing. In particular - no shadows and 30% viewing distance. Some people on the forums and friends have said running the video settings on 'High" is enough for them.

I run a Win7-64bit, i7, X58MB, 12Gb DDR3 and 3xHD5850 ATI cards in SLI...

This guy info is helpful, however there is a non-legit way of using http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=25559736296&sid=1&pageNo=1

64 bit Windows 7 with 4 gigs ram, 2560 x 1600 display, ultra display mode, ATI 5870

I hit this crash about 6 times in my first hour of playing tonight. I started reading the forums & noticed somebody saying that when they saw wow.exe#32 hit about 1.6 megs in task manager, wow crashes with the out of memory error.

I spent the past hour experimenting and learned:

* I definitely repro the bug each time I get my commit size for wow.exe*32 in task manager to hit a little over 1.6 megs
* My stress test is running around Dala in a big circle, constantly turning my view 360 degrees around, up, down, etc.
* All of my add-ons (& I have a lot) only slimmed down my memory usage by about 80 megs when all turned off
* Turning graphics down to low (but leaving resolution alone) decreased memory consumed by 600 meg!
* Turning graphics down from ultra to high decreased memory usage by about 100 meg

My solution for the moment (hoping to see a 64 bit version of wow.exe soon :-)) is to settle on "high" mode for graphics.

Something definitely changed in the memory footprint consumed by wow.exe in this patch -- I hit this problem about 2 times a week before the patch.

It's worth trying all the usual issues when a new patch comes around:

Delete your cache folder, update add-ons, restart your modem and router entirely, update your graphics drivers and sound drivers.

While I haven't had any problems with this particular patch, in the past doing one or the other of the recommended steps that everybody hates hearing from the blues has helped.

There was one patch where only my connection to Wow was suffering while everything else was fine and a reboot of my router and modem fixed the issue mysteriously enough so you never know!

I've done all that. The problem is these issues have existed before the patch was released and are now 10X worse by a change to the wow.exe file. There is a work around to this file which requires some editing to fix the problem, but its not legit. The Blizzard dev team needs to release a patch to fix this.

A separate lag issue for Australian players was identified earlier in the week as well.

***UPDATE***
Blizz has stated that this is against the terms of use. It is a slight alteration and the risk is minimal; however, THE RISK IS STILL THERE. For reference purposes, I'll leave the thread intact; however, please read Martyt's post before doing anything:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=25552505632&sid=1&pageNo=2#27

There's a thread in the Suggestions forum asking for this flag to be available for end-users without any possible repercussions.

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=25560026786&sid=1

Feel free to add your $.02 there.

I hold no liability for what happens beyond this point.

*32-BIT WINDOWS USERS*
There are a few extra steps you will have to take. The instructions are on the Fallout 3 Large Address Aware Enable directions.

---Original Thread Follows Below---

FIRST OFF: Blizz, please don't kill me for this! I wouldn't normally link to an application that's capable of adding this flag, but the time seems kind of dire.

SECOND: If you are not comfortable doing this, simply turn down your graphics - mainly view distance - as that will consume less memory. The out of storage issue arises from hitting the 32-bit application 2 GB address limitation.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6510

Download that file. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR WOW.EXE!! Rename it WoW.exe.original; put it elsewhere; JUST BACK IT UP. Once you have the backup made, put a copy of the WoW.exe into the 3GB ENABLER folder. Rename it "Fallout3.exe" and open the "Startme.bat" file. Some stuff will appear on-screen. Press any button to continue. Once you're past that prompt, press the "A" key on your keyboard. This will add the Large Address Aware flag. Rename the EXE back to WoW.exe and put it back in your World of Warcraft folder. If you did this right, the crashes will stop. [/quote]

This has stopped most my crashing - however you run the risk of getting in trouble with Blizzard....

I'll post the other stuff later - more legit options, but they are shit too.

The lag issue I was getting today was fixed doing a putty.exe -cleanup for wowtunnels. Don't use Tunnel 8, seems to be having some issues.
