| Get it off Gog.com, should end up cheaper than if you get it off Steam.
If located within Australia, when you sign up set your location to elsewhere to avoid censorship as well as a hiked price.
I'M PUMPED. Was disappointed by Dragon Age 2, hoping this hits the fix. Not that DA2 was a bad game, just didn't hit the sweet spot for making hard decisions.

| Censorship in AU?!! I thought only Singapore censors stuff! Wait, SG games are not censored... only politics | |

| After completing it, I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed. The combat is incredibly good, compared to the original.
It plays more like assassin's creed than dragon age, except a lot more challenging. You can rarely take on multiple mobs head-on until much later when you start getting talents, until that point you need to be tactical and move in and out, position yourself so you never have yourself flanked. It took me a good while to figure it out, and until the point I did (around 5 hours in), I had a lot of trouble. Now, replaying the game, I'm cruising through on a harder difficulty setting.
Story-wise, I have few complaints. its similar to the first in that it just drops you in the story and assumes you have a base knowledge of the series but if you don't, it fills you in later. It's unconventional but not particularly jarring if you stick with it and/or read the journal entries.
It's also the first game in a while I've had to read the manual for, there's a lot you'll miss otherwise. I found out Alt locks onto targets near the end of the game, for example, wondering all the time before why it was so hard.
It also actually forces you to get into the habit of laying traps and using bombs and potions. It's an interesting change from Dragon Age where I just spammed mana pots as a caster, instead having to balance stat trade-offs.

| 'Sup homies! I've been thinking about getting this game, but I might be too used to BioWare's style of RPG, with strong NPC interactions. Also, I'm trying Rift using the free trial. Is anyone playing it on the side, just wondering? | |

| A few people were but I think most let their accounts lapse. Shift and Elxr definitley were, Diablofury might still have his account running, I had it but only played for a few days before getting bored. Witcher 2 has a lot less NPC development and focuses more on the development of your idea of what is right and wrong :p With that said, the characters you meet aren't exactly all terrible and some are quite strongly developed. There's something to be said for the touch of how a lot of the conversations between them takes place in taverns, drinking I think mostly what I enjoyed was Witcher 2's coherence to a single idea. Dragon Age 2 had no real focus, t felt rushed or underdeveloped in some areas; I didn't mind it as an experience but I didn't feel moved by it. Any time you got a decision, it didn't really make a huge difference, you still had to get into the exact same fight as you would if you chose the other option. Meanwhile in Witcher 2, you can actually finish the game in an hour by choosing one of the options offered. It isn't a particularly smart choice but it's a decision the game allows you. It doesn't babysit you with getting rival points as opposed to friend points. If I'm not mistaken, there are actually two separate campaigns that diverge from a choice you make in Act One, kind of like the choice between choosing mages or templars in DA2 except it changes the story and what you see significantly. That to me feels more true to the point of a morality system than a few token references on the side in a sequel | |

| You know, I actually went my first play-through as Swordsman spec because I Was like "AWESOME AOE ATTACK". Then I realised you don't get that until like 15-20. Awesome when you do though: group finisher is hacks. Meanwhile, if you go magic spec, you can just cast Yrden for AOE everytime somebody attacks you and pretty much win in every situation. Then you spec into Ignii and as soon as your attacks begin building adrenaline you can get a full bar just by gathering up 10 mobs by dodge rolling, yrden to ignii to heliotrope and win >.> Will try alchemy for my next playthrough, definitley looks like the hardest since you need to remember when you're going to get into fights :< Valdr: Poker dice is great It's actually harder in Witcher 2 because you can throw the fucking dice off the board >< | |
