During Sunwell Plateau progression, Nihilum started recruiting heavily. In this feature, KidArctica has had a quick chat with seven rather new recruits that recently made full member, asking them about their background and what they think about their current situation.

Anders from Denmark originally played a paladin, but rerolled feral druid last winter. Hailing from Al'akir, Alekty used to be a guild officer and later guild master of now disbanded Agnostics.

- What made you decide to apply to Nihilum and leave your old guild behind?

The reason is quite simple really, I wanted to play in the best guild in the world. Like so many others, I've always thought of Nihilum to be unreachable as far as of joining them goes. And when I applied, I actually didn't know they needed feral druids. But Nessaj told me that they did in fact need ferals, and well - here I am.

- How easy/hard was it for you to make that decision?

It was very easy. Agnostics was already falling apart, so for me there was no real decision to make when I transferred.

- How did your old guild react to you leaving?

You didn't read the 15 pages of forum drama? At first, everyone got really pissed because we decided to split the guild bank between the officers. That's not how everyone would have done it, but that's what we did. Lately, a lot of the people who were involved in the flaming and drama making have changed their opinion of me. I guess they were frustrated really, since a lot of the people we had in the guild had nowhere else to go to raid when we split.

- What are the biggest differences for you between now and then?

The major change must be the amount of failing in raids compared to my old guilds, any of them really. There is close to none in Nihilum. And I am different as well, I've learned a lot in the rather short time I've been here.

- Is there anything in particular you miss or that you absolutely don't miss about your former realm/guild?

I actually like that I'm not a part of the officer core in a guild now, it's so much more relaxing to just be a member.

- What do you think about Nihilum and Magtheridon, and do you see yourself ever switching guilds in the future?

I haven't been here long enough to comment on the realm, but it seems like there are lots of good players here. As for Nihilum, I don't see myself raiding in any other guild, especially now that we won't take a break for months until Wrath of the Lich King. Otherwise I would have gotten too bored and tried to talk things over with Kungen to be allowed to play with another guild until the expansion. I really like the whole Nihilum spirit and how things are dealt with in the guild.

After starting her WoW career in the alliance guild Vision on Burning Legion, Daniella from Sweden rerolled an undead warlock called Damia. She became well-known on Magtheridon as the former raid and guild leader of now disbanded Hi Goat.

- What made you decide to apply to Nihilum and leave your old guild behind?

I had been leading the guild through a lot of shit like tanks leaving, shamans missing and crap people that didn't pull their weight, so I went back and forth through SSC and TK a few times as well as dragging most of them through Mount Hyjal and Black Temple. Some of my players were really awesome, but some of them just didn't seem to care. After realising we were wiping on Archimonde every week due to individual mistakes, and the same on Reliquary of Souls and even Gurtogg Bloodboil, I just felt that I spent not only the time in the raid leading it but also an extensive amount outside the scheduled raids fixing everything with no one to help me out. I didn't have fun.

When Nihilum did their April Fools' joke, some of them joined my guild. I forced Zooki to come to Hyjal since he was a minion in my guild, and we wiped until 3 am after having done Hyjal for several months. There was no improvement and a fair amount of people that couldn't remember shit from one week to the next. Also the fact that only 5-6 of the "old" Hi Goat people were still active made me think "I'm doing all this shit for a guild that I don't even know anymore, only for the name Hi Goat and what it used to stand for".

- How easy/hard was it for you to make that decision?

I decided to leave before I applied to Nihilum. I didn't know what my plans were; I just knew I didn't want to lead the guild anymore. But since I love this game and I love raiding, I decided to give it a shot. I had heard about how the guild was run and that people actually did their part and always did their best, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Even if we wipe, there's still much less retarded idiots in Nihilum than in any other guild I've seen.

- How did your old guild react to you leaving?

All the old people that had gone casual or quit said that hopefully, I had finally found a guild that had the same striving for perfection and time efficiency as I always had. Most of the people in the guild seemed quite happy that I could finally stop my bitching and crying over people's failure and get to play with players that focused more. Sadly, no one could or would take over. So it's a dead guild now.

- What are the biggest differences for you between now and then?

I'm not going mental anymore! Sure, there is always people afk-ing at the wrong times and someone not 100% focused, people are still people and it happens to the best of us. But there is less retardation in Nihilum and the amount of useless, stupid wipes is a lot smaller. For example, Hi Goat could wipe on Gurtogg Bloodboil because of healers not realising who got Fel Rage, on Illidan because of a player not moving out when he got parasite, or someone getting air bursted on Archimonde and not using Tears of the Goddess.

Stuff like that rarely happens in Nihilum, and it was those tiny mistakes that made me go bitch mode in Hi Goat. When you spend so much time leading a guild, making sure the raid is balanced, doing ready checks, uploading dkp, handling loot, talking to trials, explaining fights and abilities five days a week, you go insane when people aren't at least doing their part, which is showing up on time and doing their class duties.

- Is there anything in particular you miss or that you absolutely don't miss about your former realm/guild?

I miss some people. There were a few that always did their best and never whined: Jompen, Tarlisa, Rejst, Ogge, Mantra, Illu (my first warlock class leader), Cerill, Wowi, Kba, Debo, Lolcraft and Rukia - I am sure I have forgotten some names. Those are the ones that "made" Hi Goat. Sadly in the end, the only one that still played actively was Lolcraft, the rest were new recruits. I miss Debo and Kba's whining and Mantra's yelling the most. Vyrre reminds me a bit of Tarlisa, he could come on Ventrilo and just make everyone laugh. Debo is a bit like Buzzkill, never shutting up!

- What do you think about Nihilum and Magtheridon, and do you see yourself ever switching guilds in the future?

I guess the reason I like Nihilum so much and what makes it feel like home already is the fact that the behaviour of most people is the same as in my old guild. Harsh words and insults flying all over, and when you fuck up, you'll get shit for it. But that's old Hi Goat times, the BWL, AQ and Naxx days. I kinda like Magtheridon. There are always no-lifers around to do Blood Furnace runs with alts at 4-5 am, and the auction house is stocked.

I don't think I could ever play with another guild after being in Nihilum, even if I haven't been in the guild for long. There's a certain feeling here, I like it a lot. It is home, in a way - no bullshit - it sounds a bit emo, but I love it here, so far at least. For me it's a matter of being able to sync with people like I did in Hi Goat. You kinda feel if it's gonna work out, and if you're happy. I must admit with the reputation Nihilum had I was terrified the first raids, but all the people on Ventrilo kind of made me relaxed quite fast. It is a harsh environment, a place to always improve and do your best, which I like. I like having to work hard.

Daniel is another Swede that has joined the guild. The enhancement and restoration shaman hails from the server Stormreaver where he played in the guild Heist.

- What made you decide to apply to Nihilum and leave your old guild behind?

My last guild was falling apart. Some core players stopped playing and our guild master went to SK Gaming. So I started looking around for a hardcore guild that was looking for good shamans, a guild that I could stay in forever.

- How easy/hard was it for you to make that decision?

It was easy, because the guild was falling apart. The guild master left, core players went to Age of Conan and the others were looking for new guilds, so I decided to leave as well and start over in a new guild.

- How did your old guild react to you leaving?

I don't know really, nearly everyone was leaving so I don't think they had too big reactions. They were more like: "Ohh, grats on joining Nihilum and good luck!"

- What are the biggest differences for you between now and then?

Of course the raiding times are a bit different and how well you perform in raids, but what people may not think of is all the "randoms" asking you millions of questions and other things every day. My last guild was not famous or had this huge community that Nihilum does, so there were never any whispers.

- Is there anything in particular you miss or that you absolutely don't miss about your former realm/guild?

I do miss some of my old guild mates, some more than others for sure, but apart from that I don't really miss anything. I got a really warm welcome when I joined Nihilum and it feels like I have found my home.

- What do you think about Nihilum and Magtheridon, and do you see yourself ever switching guilds in the future?

I know back in the days when you first heard of Nihilum, Curse, Forte and so on, they were the best and the ones you wanted to join. I can't say I didn't know anything about Magtheridon before I came here, I knew there were lots of raiding guilds on this server so IF I wouldn't make it in Nihilum, I might have had a chance of joining a guild that wasn't too bad. As I said before, don't think I will ever switch guild again.

While he has been in numerous guilds over the years, the Russian player Alexander transferred his undead warlock Shurko to Magtheridon from Stonemaul, where he had been a member of one of the best Russian guilds, "Guess Who".

- What made you decide to apply to Nihilum and leave your old guild behind?

I wanted to play more hardcore than my guild was doing. Plus I had different views on some problems than the officers. I didn't really think that I would join Nihilum, I applied to Last Resort as well, but they denied my application. Also SK Gaming was recruiting a warlock at that time, but I didn't really like that guild, so I decided to not to apply to them.

- How easy/hard was it for you to make that decision?

The decision wasn't to join Nihilum, but to find a more hardcore guild. But when Kungen contacted me, it helped speed up my decision.

- How did your old guild react to you leaving?

There are different people in every community. The real friends from my last guild were happy for me and wished me the best, wanting me to show what the Russian community can do. Of course there were drama queens, but I don't care about that.

- What are the biggest differences for you between now and then?

I think the motivation is the biggest difference. Of course I was trying to do my best in my previous guilds, but still, Nihilum has different goals. Also, I really, really like the Nihilum community.

- Is there anything in particular you miss or that you absolutely don't miss about your former realm/guild?

Hard to say... I still keep in touch with most of my friends from former guilds. Sometimes I miss the old times, old raids, wipes and so on. We had some real life meetings in the REDSTAR guild I was in, and it was great.

- What do you think about Nihilum and Magtheridon, and do you see yourself ever switching guilds in the future?

I feel great in the Nihilum community and I'm not going to switch guilds.

Sunandsteel visit profile

Most people on Magtheridon have heard of Sunandsteel, as he is well-known for his countless pug raids. The undead warrior is played by Jovan from Serbia, who used to be the guild master, main tank and raid leader in the semi-casual guild Madness.

- What made you decide to apply to Nihilum and leave your old guild behind?

I saw the same thing happening as last summer - people showing up for farm raids and not showing up for progress. I play the game for two reasons; a strong community and progress. I tried to combine the two, and I managed to get one of the best communities on Magtheridon, but we simply ran out of good recruits. People with full tier 6 stopped playing, and I was forced to constantly recruit and gear up people, again and again, and 80% of the recruits failed. So I gathered the officers after seeing two applications in the guild forum after two and a half months of open recruitment. We agreed that we'd just get more and more frustrated if it kept going, so we called it. I applied to Nihilum, since I strive to compete and progress. And here I am.

- How easy/hard was it for you to make that decision?

Hardest call I ever made in the game.

- How did your old guild react to you leaving?

There was no bad blood. People understood it. Most of them stopped playing, some moved on to other guilds. Madness had a pretty good reputation on the server as being skilled players and nice people, so that made it easy for most of them to get new guilds. One of my ferals ended up in Bad Omen, which was a "higher" guild progress wise than what Madness was. I tried to maintain the fine balance between progress, happiness and attitude. What made it easier was that most of the Madness members were over 25 years old, meaning mature people, and I was told for a long time that I deserved better.

- What are the biggest differences for you between now and then?

There is no difference. Whatever I did, wherever I was I always came maximum prepared.

- Is there anything in particular you miss or that you absolutely don't miss about your former realm/guild?

I don't miss Ventrilo, Buzzkill and co. make it as much fun as on my old one. The community in general is nice; there are some great people here. Also, raids are a lot faster when it comes to execution and organisation. Sometimes it took us 20 minutes just to get a 25th member online for raids. To sign up, you had to spend 15-20 seconds, but some people could not be arsed to do that, so I could not plan raids in advance. What I miss most is some of my old members and the charisma and attitude they had. I won't single out anyone, because that may offend others.

- What do you think about Nihilum and Magtheridon, and do you see yourself ever switching guilds in the future?

The only two ways I would stop being here are 1) I get kicked, or 2) the guild disbands. I always stay behind and work for the guild I am in, no matter which rank/job I have. I am always there when needed and always try to do my max. I make mistakes like every human, but I try to keep the amount of those mistakes at zero.

The Swedish player Jonathan transferred his restoration druid Sykostig to Magtheridon from Bloodfeather. He was the druid class leader and healing officer in the Swedish guild Aspire, who had downed Illidan before he chose to leave.

- What made you decide to apply to Nihilum and leave your old guild behind?

I needed an environmental change and I always thought I was good at this game. With the time and effort I put into it, I felt it was pretty natural to apply to one of the best guilds.

- How easy/hard was it for you to make that decision?

It was pretty easy to make that decision, I mean just because you apply doesn't mean you will get in. To be honest, when I got the mail from Kungen I'd totally forgotten about the application I had made.

- How did your old guild react to you leaving?

Some pretty ugly words were thrown out there. But once they heard what guild I was leaving for they seemed to take it better. I played with Nihilum on the PTR before I joined 'for real'. That made it easier for me.

- What are the biggest differences for you between now and then?

I have more spare time to do things outside World of Warcraft? Haha.

- Is there anything in particular you miss or that you absolutely don't miss about your former realm/guild?

The guild was at that time a 'Swedish only' guild. I miss that sometimes, it was a lot easier to chat on Ventrilo with everyone. What I don't miss is the drama.

- What do you think about Nihilum and Magtheridon, and do you see yourself ever switching guilds in the future?

I can't think of a guild I would rather play in. So if you see me in another guild, I got booted. And Magtheridon is just great, no matter what time of the day it is you can always find something fun to do. There are always heroics and 25-mans going. I like it!

Hailing from the now disbanded guild Elysium on the Ravencrest server, the Dutch player Frank transferred his troll mage Thundar to Magtheridon after his guild downed Felmyst.

- What made you decide to apply to Nihilum and leave your old guild behind?

Bananeen used to be in the guild with me. Another member, who has meanwhile left, asked and managed to get us both invited to Nihilum shortly after making an application. At the time I didn't feel my old guild would get very far in Sunwell, at least not as far and as fast as I would like.

- How easy/hard was it for you to make that decision?

I always hate leaving guilds, especially since there were some great people in the guild I was in. But I knew they would understand, and I am actually playing Age of Conan with some of them.

- How did your old guild react to you leaving?

They took it well, many of them admitted they'd join Nihilum too if given the chance.

- What are the biggest differences for you between now and then?

When the latter Sunwell gates opened, the length and the early starting time of some of the raids was something I had never seen before. Fortunately, I have always had a lot of free time, so it didn't take a lot of adjustment. The major difference to me is the attitude of the guild members when it comes to raiding and striving to be the best. There is a big difference between striving for server firsts and striving for world firsts, and I enjoy the latter much more.

- Is there anything in particular you miss or that you absolutely don't miss about your former realm/guild?

I mainly just miss the people I played with for a long time.

- What do you think about Nihilum and Magtheridon, and do you see yourself ever switching guilds in the future?

I think Nihilum is great, at least for someone as competitive as me. I somehow doubt I'll be joining any other guild, if Nihilum ended up not working out for whatever reason, I'd probably stop playing World of Warcraft.
