PostSubject: Newbie gripes by a P&P player   Tue Jul 15, 2008 10:25 am

Shamus started playing World of Warcraft about a month ago, and has been having the same growing pains many of us rookies did in our younger levels. But since Shamus is something of a name in the pen-and-paper gaming Internet circuit, it's interesting to see what he has to say in his review of WoW.

"9. Heavy Drinking Mages

Mages have to replenish their magic power by sitting down and drinking water. It takes a while. Itís a constant drag on performance, and means that everything just takes longer when youíre playing a magic user. Worse, you canít put that time to use. You canít work on leatherworking, or tailoring, or alchemy, or any of the other secondary activities in the game while you wait. You just sit there.

I donít see a reason for this, other than as a simple timesink. Mages can conjure water using magic. Then they sit down and drink said water. What exactly are we accomplishing here, except to squander the playerís time?

Any game mechanic that requires you to constantly stop playing the game to do nothing for a worthless thirty seconds at a time is bad game design."

And to the person at Blizzard who decided you must be level 5 to drink a glass of milk: You are a madman and you must be stopped.

My first character is level 21 now, which means sheís still a good thirty levels from being qualified to eat a pie.

Really. What the hell?

Resurrection Sickness Sucks
Ha ha. You were killed by teleporting monsters, or lag, or by one of those roaming elites we like to put in the game just to piss people off. Sucker. Go stand in the corner for ten minutes.

I loled

Lots of stupid QQ in here Shocked

The only thing i agree with is mostly the bag space... Whenever u start a new toon, the first thing u have to do is to send him 4 16 slots bag or u will have to run back to town a lot lol.

10. Wandering Elites are Asinine

..... Suddenly being attacked by something you canít fight and canít outrun is more or less the same thing as being killed by a random bolt of lightning. Life is random and unfair, but when Iím playing a game for entertainment Iíd like for penalties to be related to mistakes, not bad luck. This does not enrich the game experience. Itís just a pointless death to punish the player forÖ what? Playing the game in the first place?

Well I have to disagree on this one, it's not so common and it adds a sense of danger to the zones. Also, it makes for some memorable encounters. Which Hordie doesn't remember the 4 mounted Alliance elites roaming Southern Barrens with a curse and a smile?

Speaking of wandering elites, the Son of Arugal was by far the worst, always sneaking up behind you in the middle of Silverpine Forest where you can't see them coming until it's too late.

my top 3 are those centaurs outside wailing caverns you simply can't get there without being ambushed by them, but i managed to make peace with myself when i went back 10 levels later killing everyone of those damn horsies in 2 hrs unbridled rage.

2nd would be those damn elites in EPL, but i exorcised those demons comfort with the knowledge that i can wipe them out single handedly anytime, in fact when i signed up for the PTR, the first thing i did was not to see Black temple or zul'aman, but to seek out these annoying OP scouts and put them in their spots.

last would be king mosh in the crater, he mastered the art of ganking up on me whenever i'm there farming but cos of it's title - king. I coaxed, cajoled my then guildies to put up and expedition force to kill it, we went there all gung ho but king mosh just ignored us and squashed us like flies. took us a few tries to get him and for a rare spawn with such royal name it drops grey thrash, we thought we were unlucky and kill it again and again and apparently it only drop greys...

i suspect i will be visiting vashj again when i'm level 80..

The QQ thing is not all that bad (someone even got a job at Blizzard becos of a 16-page QQ), imho what's worse are fanbois who think that Blizz can do no wrong, and blindly accept any shit thrown at them.

Sheep customers --> complacent developers --> lousy games.
