1. Learn to kite and dodge

Why? Because mobs hit hard in GW2 - they can 2-3 shot you if you don't avoid their attacks. Unlike other MMOs, you don't need to stop and cast for most of your abilities.

Dodging in GW2 can be achieved via double tapping a movement key (WASD), but I'd recommend assigning a separate key for it, for greater precision. Most assign the left Shift key.

Warrior

Strengths: Durable, versatile due to access to weapons
Weaknesses: Melee, can be kited

Main hand
Sword: DoTs, movement
Axe: Burst DPS
Mace: stuns, dazes

2-handed
Greatsword: AoE for PvE
Hammer: AoE, control, good for PvP
Rifle: range DPS
Long bow: range AoE, but slower than rifle

Off-hand
Warhorn: movement, AoE buff/debuff, good for PvP
