I made a mistake during the last mission because I wasn't aware it was possible to have a "perfect no-death" ending. I assumed somebody had to die and it'd be one of the leaders/specialists, so i avoided putting miranda and jack in any groups other than my own Razz

You know the best way for your Shepard to die?

Click Omega 4 relay as soon as you get the chance to steer the ship >.>

I think its kind of stupid though. With Dragon Age, the sacrifice was a vital part of the story unless you witch fucked. In ME2, its harder for an average player to die than it is to live Razz

In Dragon Age, the PC's death is a player-decision.

In ME2, the PC's death is the player's negligence/incompetence.

I knew intuitively that the techies that you have to send have to be either Legion or Tali. I didn't know then that sending anyone else would result in his death. I'm glad I made the right call without meta-gaming. Same for the biotic specialist.

I thought that my femshep would die as a result of a moral decision, like in DA:O, and was worried that she would meet her end because of Cerberus' betrayal for destroying the base, like having EDI depart without picking up my my squad unless she agrees to save the base.

Still, I wonder what repercussions she'll face for disobeying the Illusive Man.

I used Legion that first time for the tech specialist with the same logical reason as you but I assigned the wrong person to the fire squad. As a result, Legion didn't get enough covering fire when the door was closing and he got shot and killed Razz

That is what I didn't expect: people dying due to other people's mistakes. And it was a surprising enough twist that I was hooked.

And, because we haven't had enough hawtness recently, here's a picture of the person Miranda is modeled after. The likeness is startling!

So who did you assign as the fire squad leader and who died as a result?

I'm playing through again as a Maleshep Sentinel. Liking it so far. I tried Infiltrator and got frustrated with it.

Anyway, here's a video of some of Renegade Maleshep's dialogue options.

I believe it was either Zaeed, Jacob or Grunt. I know I used Garrus to escort the people back to the ship, Legion for the vents, and I can't remember the rest.

It's a shame finding side missions is so darned hard this time around. Visiting every planet and hoping to hear "ANOMALY" is a worse design choice than the original. I found this to make that easier: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/944906/58925

I'm currently playing through again as female shepard, I wish I could have lesbian relations with Jack or Miranda. Everything about female Shepard is better except romance options. Grumble grumble. Its also a problem I had with Dragon Age. I wanted to be Queen alone but you can't do that apparently, but if you're a male noble you can totally do it. Its preposterous.

In full agreement here. I think Jennifer Hale's voice-acting is excellent. I've only played ME1 once through and it was as a femshep. I started with the default maleshep but I couldn't get into the character and now I believe it could be due to Mark Meer's voice-acting. Wasn't convincing enough.

I restarted as a femshep and I completed the game with her. I then imported her saved filed into ME2 when it came out, so I think this will be my canon Shepard: Jane Shepard, the colonist who was the sole survival of a thresher maw attack; saved the galaxy and the Council; loved Liara, and stayed true to her during her encounter with the Collectors; and brought everyone back alive from the Collectors' base.

There was a brief scene in which Shepard was in her cabin and she gazed longingly at a picture of her love interest from ME1 right before embarking on the suicide mission. I'm glad my canon Shepard stayed faithful.

seriously you guys are whacked

i mean i dont mind going all gay-like (kisses and licks to junik, zie, sym and other gay boobies)

but playing a girl toon in any RPG is just...whacked

highly impossible for 'owh you're so vain imz' (trademarked by rhodie)

my paragon shep kept his pants on due to how much i agree strongly that liara is by far the best 'im-such-an-innocent-alien-so-please-screw-me' character. here's hoping to an opening scene in ME3 where liara does the all alliance dream; sex, drugs and unlimited ammo. or a very horrifying scene of ash getting killed.

renegede shep literally screws everyone. man that kelly is a slut. very surprising indeed.

about the game, i have to agree with you guys that ME2 doesnt really make me want to play it again. where i've played ME1 far too many times, ME2 just feels like a drag 2nd time around.

the one thing i am greatly dissapointed in ME2, where bioware had it great in thier other games, is the team organization/management/relationship. throughout the whole game i did not even once feel like i 'should' bring this guy/gal with me. shep is strong enough by himself that any other teammate is just for eye candy.

in ME1, i was inclined to bring a techie for the locks or a biotic for the cheat stun for example.in DA:O, you HAD to have a tank+dps.in kotor u gain trust/rep points. ME2 offers none of those; u just have to talk to them. no true deep involvement at all. and all thier skills are close to useless apart from overload.

thier involvement in conversations is rather 'lacking' to me compared to the great script for NPC in DA:O. the conversations morrigan and the redhead had when u were trying to score them both is classic. i actually felt 'oh shit im caught!!!' just like back in the school days.

although i disagree with sym, i fuckin love scanning planets. just because its the only time i can play while craddling aria in one hand.

disregarding the rant, i do think ME2 is great, story wise its superb and the added flavor to garrus is awesome.

btw what classes did you guys tried out?

i got bored with inflitrator too arielyn, died too many times using the cool but silly stealth power. 'hawt damn im invisible!!! im right behind you u asshole!!! pew pew!!! ....critical failure....load game....

soldier seems OP to me with disrupt/warp ammo skills though.

I don't really roleplay any female character, actually. I play the game like I'm a storyteller, creating an epic story about a courageous heroine who saved the galaxy. Apart from having a female character who is an eye candy, stories with a strong female lead are more interesting for me.

Anyway, here is how she looks like:

As for replaying the game, I think you misread me, as I'm playing through a second time, as a male Shep this time in order to romance Tali. He's a Sentinel. The class has something for most situations. If the enemy has barriers, Warp! If he has armour, Warp! Shielded? Overload! And he has that Tech Armor for extra survivability.

I've played as infiltrator, soldier and vanguard. Vanguard is probably the most fun on casual mode but you'd have to be insane to try it on hardcore or insanity. Soldier is probably the easiest and most versatile due to the multiple bullet types + concussive shot + adrenaline rush. Infiltrator is awesome for the first half of the game but later on there's too much zerging for their abilities to be as useful.

If adepts could cast biotics on shielded/armoured targets, I'd be a lot happier playing one. I love the control they have but its useless when every second mob is immune until you remove his shielding.

I didn't feel the renegade choices were all that bad actually. I could justify most of them. Especially the very last HUGE choice you make which changes how the Illusive Man treats you. Even the smaller ones like not stopping the kid from going in to see Archangel. If you didn't know before hand that Archangel was ________, having extra fodder is a smart move as he might not want to spare you.

I was more disappointed by Kaidan/Ashely showing up, so little depth to it. Liara's become a crazy ass bitch, and even that was better than what little we learn about the other two.

Can't wait for ME3 though. Currently cleaning up all the N7 sidemissions on my save and I have to say, some of the side missions are more interestingly designed than the main missions. While the main missions are basically A>B type missions, you have a few more puzzles in the side missions. I can see why they did it; they were aiming for a dumber market who would just enjoy the 3rd person shooter side of the game, but its a shame.

i agree totally with you sym. i believe that part of an rpg (besides the story) is the in-depth customization options for players. ME2 offers too little in that regard. dont know how u guys feel about this but i tend to love the 'item management' of rpgs. for some reason i enjoy oogling at my inventory screen and every 1st trip to a new shop feels like an exciting milestone in the rpg. i think i was cursed with diablo many years ago. borderlands had a nice ago at it.

but yea, too little rpg, item management and character customization really made it lame for us but good to the dumb market. but dont they have auto-level options for that.

you got it right too in renegade not being a total badass. some renegade choices made it feel like we wanna be on good terms with the illusive man. ME1 renegade was mostly a 'self-centered shep', ME2 renegade feels like 'illusive man's biatch'.

i'm actually having a hard time on insanity with soldier, very very challenging. keep running out of ammo and fights are way longer. im begining to think soldier isnt that good for insanity.

I like the streamlined gameplay, actually. I hated all those vendor trash that got thrown my way in ME1.

While some of the renegade choices show Shepard being mean ("this is not a casino, get back to work!"), there are those that have him betray and murder someone. If you have enough Renegade points, you can choose to help Morinth kill Samara, after the latter has taken a vow to help you, and even being complicit in covering it up by deceiving the rest of the Normandy crew that the asari now lounging around is Samara.

Also, taking the Renegade action of revealing Tali's evidence makes her hate you, and really screws up the volatile political situation in the Flotilla.

PostSubject: Re: Anyone else looking forward to Mass Effect 2?   Anyone else looking forward to Mass Effect 2? - Page 2 EmptyTue Feb 09, 2010 12:45 pm

I can justify the Morinth part really. It's just as immoral killing Samara as it is killing Morinth. Both of them kill, the 'honour' that Samara has is purely dependent on you being able to trust Asari law (which you're never really told much about). Morinth meanwhile, if you save her and talk to her, tells you that while she does kill people, they die due to an overload of sensory stimulation akin to bliss.

Taking either at their word is dangerous but it's not hard for me to morally justify. Lying to your crew about it is what annoys me, you should have the option of warning them not to get close to her because she kills (FATAL ATTRACTION), even if she doesn't mean to. hell if you think about it, Morinth has had a harder life than Samara, she can never let anybody that close to her.

Tali's dilemma is also quite easy. It makes her, as an individual, hate you but if you think about it, her judgment is clouded because it's her father. Wouldn't allowing this research to be put to full use rather than letting it go to waste benefit the Quarian people as a whole more so than making Tali happy? Like you said, the political situation is volatile and the research could help them come to a unanimous decision instead of letting them bicker until its too late.

I agree with Arie, the inventory management being taken out was a good thing.I got incredibly bored turning half of it into omni-gel and the other half into vendor trash. This wasn't because inventory management in itself is a bad thing but the interface in the original was crap for handling it. Too many clicks to achieve one thing and the menu interface was trash. I would have been equally happy if they had kept inventory but made the interface better instead of just removing it.

My biggest nitpick was the lack of weapons and armour types. Apart from the assortment of heavy weapons, you had at most 2-3 for each slot. I know there's a DLC coming out with a new shotgun and armour suit, which makes things a little better, but I would have enjoyed having more things to choose from to customise the default armour set. The visor was cool, but did anybody notice that it didn't line up with the eyes? Razz
